It has been a couple of years, but Best Buddies Rhode Island is back in action! State Director Karen Schnabel and Program Manager Erica Friedlander are eager to lead RI in the effort to build mutually enriching one-to-one friendships between people with intellectual disabilities and those without.
We are excited to be working for Best Buddies, and to be working with people who feel as passionately about the mission as they do.
We currently have 14 active chapters throughout Rhode Island: three middle schools, seven high schools, and four colleges.
With outstanding student and faculty leadership, RIs chapters have continued to carry out the Best Buddies mission despite limited contact with BB staff, and they deserve major kudos for that! But this year BB participants can look forward to the support and encouragement that Erica and Karen are ready and willing to provide.
In addition to the monthly activities and events each chapter holds, Karen and Erica will hold several statewide events to bring Best Buddies members from across the state together.
These events include a Local Leadership Training Day, a Best Buddies Ball in March (in celebration of national Best Buddies Month), and Boogie for Buddies (a day of movement and dancing). Together we will work with students, advisors, and community supporters to integrate people with intellectual disabilities into mainstream society, one friendship at a time.
